Dear Porn Doc,
Q: I used to be a chronic porn addict. Now I’m not looking at porn every day but I’m just not able to stay away from looking at porn and masturbating for more than a week at a time. I just can’t seem to get past this hurdle. What can I do?

Porn Doc:
It looks like you have gotten your addiction to a “manageable” level but as you are noticing, there is no such thing as just a little bit of porn. You’ve settled back into a comfortable pattern and it will likely take another shock to the system to change this —much like the kind of shock that first got your attention when you were acting out more often. Are you accountable? A good plan is to take action early each day by establishing a healthy way to start your day. Check in, write, exercise … establish healthy daily rituals. In regards to the once a week habit, you will need to dialog with your addict again and ask, “What’s left?”

Dear Porn Doc,
How can I build intimacy in my relationship? I’m not acting out but still feel my wife doesn’t trust me.

Porn Doc: Intimacy is INTO-ME-YOU-SEE, and although that may seem a tad corny, it’s true. How often do you really allow people in? Allow them to really see us? Honesty is key. Tell your wife something about yourself, share something about yourself that maybe she doesn’t know or that YOU would like to talk more about. People in recovery can tend to fall back on their heels and not take initiative. I suggest you instead reach out to your wife. It might feel scary, but I know it works!
